Lewis Hamilton has had a successful time at Mercedes. However, the Briton would not have succeeded without the help of Pete Bonnington, he told Formula1.com. Indeed, the racing engineer is said to have special qualities.

The seven-time world champion will start his 11th season for Mercedes in 2023. For all those years, Hamilton worked with Bonnington. For ten seasons, the driver felt a lot of support from 'Bono', as his nickname goes. Hamilton hopes that this collaboration will continue for a long time.

"We’ve had an amazing journey together," Hamilton began to the medium. "We’ve supported each other on and off-track, through good and bad times, and I love working with Bono; he’s like a brother to me, a brother from another mother."

"I think he’s probably one of the few people that can truly stand me, I would say, on the good and bad days – except for Roscoe [Hamilton's dog] – and how calm he’s able to be throughout a race, and how he’s able to help guide and help me navigate through a race. I don’t think there’s many people that can do that."

Hamilton goes for longer partnership

Hamilton's contract runs until the end of this calendar year, which means it is possible he is starting his final year of racing. However, it looks like both parties will extend his contract and the driver will also be found in Formula 1 in the coming years.
