Max Verstappen was crowned world champion for the second time in 2022. In an open letter emailed to all Red Bull Racing fans, he thanked everyone who supported him and indicated that without the support he might not have succeeded.

The year 2022 was one of many successes for Verstappen. The Red Bull driver won 15 out of 22 Formula 1 races to become world champion in the premier class of motorsport for the second season in a row. In addition, he was also recently voted Sportsman of the Year and was also named the best driver of the past season by his peers.

Orange Sea

Last year, we saw many grandstands coloured orange all over the world during the year. For the second year in a row, we saw a sea of orange in Zandvoort with rabidly enthusiastic Verstappen fans and he also took the win again.

Letter of thanks

Verstappen then wrote a letter to his fans thanking them for their unconditional support. The Red Bull team shared this letter with all newsletter subscribers on the last day of 2022:

"It has been a great year. I want to thank you, our loyal fans, for your support during the season. We have an incredible team spirit, but seeing you in the stands and hearing the support gives me even more motivation to keep going.

Winning so many races is incredible and I am grateful to everyone for their support. Even in the difficult moments at the beginning of the season, we kept working towards the same goal, and that is how we became drivers' and constructors' champions.

With your continued support and with the team we have, I am confident we can sustain this. I really believe in this team and know we can achieve even more success. I hope we can get many more wins in the coming years, and that together we can fight for even more championships.

Of course, it is also important for everyone to spend some time away from racing, to be with family and friends. So, I hope you all have a fantastic holiday, and I can't wait to do it all again next year."
