GPblog.com wishes everybody a Happy New Year for 2023! Formula 1 in 2022 saw Max Verstappen secure his second world championship by dominating the field from the summer break onwards. Ferrari looked strong at the start of the year, but couldn't hold on. Will they be throwing up a stronger challenge in 2023, and will Mercedes be back at the front with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell

2022 was a historical year

Verstappen had a season like no other as he smashed records and raised his statistical profile. The Dutchman won 15 races, two more than the previous best target set by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. Though his infamous sixth-place finish in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix meant that he didn't beat either Schumacher or Vettel in the percentage of wins column.

Many other records and milestones were hit during the season, including Fernando Alonso becoming the driver with the most Grands Prix to his name. With seemingly at least two seasons in his Aston Martin deal, race number 400 must be insights for the two-time World Champion. Lewis Hamilton didn't win a race for the first time in his career, but he hit the milestone of 300 races. Hamilton needs just nine podiums in 2023 to reach 200 during his career.

There are many more Formula 1 statistics we could dive into but to celebrate the new year we want to thank you; our community.

Thank you
