At the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, there was a terrifying accident at the start with Guanyu Zhou crashing his car behind the crash barrier. George Russell was involved in the crash, but immediately rushed towards his colleague. A human reaction, the Mercedes driver recounted the moment.

Immediately after the start of the race, Russell and Zhou hit each other after the Mercedes driver tapped Pierre Gasly' s AlphaTauri. At this, Zhou's Alfa Romeo shot off the track at high speed, before flipping over and flying over the tyre barriers. He got stuck between the barrier and the fence in front of the grandstand.

Russell: 'I reacted more as a human than as a driver'

Russell stopped his damaged Mercedes on the run-off strip, climbed out of his car and rushed over to see if he could help Zhou. Asked about that moment, the 24-year-old Briton said it was simply a "human reaction". Moreover, as a driver, he could imagine how Zhou must have felt in his plight.

"I guess, if I was in that position, I would want every single bit of help as soon as possible, because you don't know what is going to happen next, the car's going on fire or whatnot. So, I guess that was probably more of a human reaction as opposed to a racing driver reaction," Russell said in conversation with Motorsport.com.
