Williams technical director Paddy Lowe admits that the road to recovery with his Williams team, will be the hardest challenge of his career.

Williams are rock bottom of the constructors' standings with only four points, as the team endure their worst season in memory.

Paddy Lowe arrived at Williams with a name for himself - after starting in 1987 at Williams, before joining McLaren in 1993, where he rose through the ranks to become technical director before joining Mercedes in 2013.

Lowe was part of the backroom staff that helped put Mercedes on the Formula One map and make them the dominant force that they are now.

So, understandably, there was high expectations of Lowe as he arrived at Williams - but this season's just been a disaster thus far and Lowe admits how big of a challenge this will be for him and his side.

When Lowe was asked if this was the toughest challenge of his career to date, he replied:

"In many aspects, yes."

"There have been some other challenges I faced on different occasions, but this is a new challenge for me anyway. Through the years, I've been fortunate in my career not to work in a team that wasn't part or within the reach of the front, performance-wise," Lowe explained to Motorsport Network.

"That is where we were always playing, in the top ten and towards the front 10 or at the very front end. It is a new experience for me to work in a team, which has a lot of work to do to get back to where we want to be.

"So that creates some new challenges for me personally, and I am learning all the time. Some things you get right, some things, if I had my last year again, I would do differently. But I think that is the nature of life."
