Esteban Ocon is very happy to have beaten Fernando Alonso as a teammate at Alpine. The two-time world champion was a good benchmark for the Frenchman, who now expects even more from himself.

Over a full season, Ocon scored more points than Alonso in 2022. The Spaniard came to 81 points, while Ocon managed 92. It has to be said that the two-time world champion had a lot of bad luck throughout the season. He crashed out several times, losing a lot of points.

Ocon versus Alonso

For Ocon, however, that does not count. He is very proud to have finished above his teammate in the championship standings, where he failed to do so in 2021. ' 'It gives me a lot of satisfaction to finish above him in the end,'' Ocon told Motorsport.com. In the qualifying duel, Ocon did lose out to his 41-year-old teammate. That ended up 12-10 in Alonso's favour with an average difference of 0.108s.

Earlier, Ocon also revealed that he did most of the work at Alpine. So Alonso's departure was not so bad at all. Now he can share the work (mainly in the simulator and in terms of marketing) with his new teammate Pierre Gasly. The end of the year was not entirely smooth between Alonso and Ocon either, when the two quarrelled in Brazil.

Still, Ocon wants to end on a good note and wishes his teammate of the past two seasons good luck at Aston Martin. The British team finished seventh in the constructors' standings in 2022, 118 points behind Alpine. Alonso will hope that that gap is a lot smaller in 2023.
