Chip Ganassi Racing has already given away the seats at the IndyCar team for next season. However, one seat may become available again in 2024. This is mainly with an eye on the future, which is why they are giving Robert Shwartzman, Ferrari' s current test and development driver in Formula 1, a chance to test in the American class.

The 23-year-old was crowned Formula 3 champion in 2019. In 2021, he became the runner-up in the Formula 2 championship. RACER has announced that the driver driving under the Israeli flag will test for CGR in January while the team makes an early start on looking at options for 2024.

Priority

2021 IndyCar champion Alex Palou, who signed a revised contract with the team making him a free agent after 2023, is expected to leave for Arrow McLaren SP. Finding a replacement for Palou is now a priority and Shwartzman is believed to be the first of a few drivers who will be allowed to test for CGR.

A member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Shwartzman stayed busy as Ferrari's development driver in 2022, wrapping up a few free practice sessions for the team and leaving a good impression. As Callum Ilott, Christian Lundgaard and Marcus Armstrong have shown, IndyCar is becoming increasingly popular among F2 drivers who cannot secure a seat in F1.
