Sebastian Vettel's win on Sunday is huge in the title race according to F1 chief Ross Brawn.

Formula 1 chief Ross Brawn has said that Sebastian Vettel's dramatic Silverstone victory at the weekend is significant in the 2018 title battle.

Vettel saw off Lewis Hamilton, despite the Brit starting in pole and dramatically overtook Valtteri Bottas towards the final laps of the Grand Prix.

The German's fourth win of this season meant that he extended his lead to eight points over Hamilton.

"This was Sebastian's 51st Formula One win, putting him joint on the list of most successful drivers in F1," Brawn told Crash.

"It cannot be seen as a turning point in the championship, given that his eight-point lead is small when there is still half of a season to go, but it was definitely a significant result, both technically and pyschologically, as we head toward the Ferrari's man's home race in Germany.

"Hamilton's pace throughout was prodigious and who knows what would have happened if Vettel and Bottas hadn't got past him at the start.

"What is certain is that a race that should have seen him retake the championship lead from Vettel turned into a damage limitation exercise."

Ferrari now have four wins under their belt, whilst Mercedes only have three.

This meant that the Italians extended their lead to 20 points in the constructors' championship.

It's Mercedes' home race in 11 days in Hockenheim and they are going to have to pull something out of the bag before Ferrari zoom off into the distance.
