Guanyu Zhou has given himself a rating after the end of his rookie season in Formula 1. The Chinese driver picked up points on his debut, had a violent crash at Silverstone, but has also regularly finished in the top 10.

Zhou came over to Alfa Romeo from Formula 2 and immediately showed his potential by scoring a point in the opening race in Bahrain. Yet he also had several missed opportunities due to technical breakdowns in Miami, Spain and Azerbaijan. After a dramatic exit that resulted in a bizarre crash in Turn 1 at the British Grand Prix, he fortunately escaped with a scare.

Eight to 10 points lost

Looking back on the season, the Chinese is asked by F1.com asked to give himself a report grade:"Seven, I think. That's a pretty good score." He says he wanted to achieve more on paper, but lost around eight to 10 points due to crashes which he still finds painful. Still, the driver takes something positive into next season:"We could show the paddock, the people what I can do, so that's the good side and the most important part."

Zhou's points along with his experienced teammate Valtteri Bottas' 49 points helped Alfa Romeo push past Aston Martin into sixth place in the constructors' championship. The 23-year-old added that he was happy to tick off his and the team's pre-season goals.
