Fernando Alonso admits he is pleased with his team's efforts on Sunday admist speculation the driver is unhappy at McLaren.

Alonso has admitted this season that qualifying has been McLaren's weakness and that was shown at the weekend as Alonso failed to make it to Q3 for the eighth time already this season.

The Spaniard was positive despite this and claims he was happy with the battle he was able to take part in with his midfield rivals.

The 36-year-old made up five places to end with a positive result on Sunday.

"We know this is a power-sensitive circuit, but we had the speed on the straights, it was not a problem," Alonso told Formula1.com.

"The speed, and reliability was good again this weekend.

"And as I said yesterday, I think Saturday is our lowest point of the weekend, definitely on Sunday it seems we can be in the group with Renault, Haas, Force India.

"On Saturday, we're struggling a little bit more, so we need to focus on that area in the next Grands Prix.

"We have more points for the team, which is great, but hopefully we can reach the position in the future thanks only to our own performance."

Alonso finished in eighth position and with the four points, it saw him move up to the same position in the drivers' standings.

The McLaren F1 legend now has 200 points finishes and is only 21 off Michael Schumacher's all-time record.
