Sebastian Vettel has been called a lion by his Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene, following his highly dramatic victory at the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

Arrivabene believes that Vettel "fought like a lion" as he was getting over his neck pain to win at Silverstone.

Vettel was handed a gift early on in the first-lap from his own team mate Kimi Raikkonen, as the Ferrari driver span out Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, who was in pole position.

The German secured victory with an overtake of Valtteri Bottas in a truly gripping finale to the race.

Vettel almost missed the whole of qualifying due to a pain in his neck.

Arrivabene says he was worried about Vettel's pain, but then praised the German's commitment.

"The most important problem for Seb was his neck," the Ferrari boss said to Sky Sports.

"It was really hurting yesterday, this morning he got a lot of treatment and to be honest before the race I was really very concerned about him.

"But today, he fought like a lion."

Vettel extended his title advantage to eight points and was ecstatic when heard on Ferrari's team radio.

"We've won on their home ground," Vettel said once translated from Italian.

Arrivabene hailed Vettel and said that it's not straight forward to perform in front of the British crowd.

"It's the home race of Mercedes, so you have to be quite strong," Arrivabene said.
