Mick Schumacher wants nothing more than to return to the Formula 1 grid in 2024. In fact, the German is also already preparing for a possible 2023 incursion and is starting to consider possible future plans.

Schumacher was told by Haas in the last race week of the year that he would have to relinquish his seat to compatriot Nico Hulkenberg. This leaves the young German on the sidelines next season. Still, Schumacher plans to follow a normal training schedule over the winter in preparation for the race, should he need to fill in. He admits he does not feel he is in pole position to fill in, but he is confident in his speed and knows many people in the paddock are happy with his development. "So I'm sure I can engage with a lot of teams," Schumacher said opposite Formula One.

Mercedes possible future plan?

For now, Schumacher has not shared his future plans, but a reserve role at Mercedes is one of the options. "I am looking at all options and Mercedes is one of them," Schumacher indicated. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff opened the door for a reserve role for Schumacher. The German team has a long association with the Schumacher Family and called Schumacher Junior an intelligent, well-mannered young man who has been very successful in the step-up classes leading up to Formula 1.

Schumacher would love to follow in father Michael's footsteps and go from Ferrari to Mercedes like him. "But I have the time now, so I will look at all the options and then hopefully make the right decision. It's definitely nice to hear what Mercedes and Toto are saying about me," concluded the Formula 2 and Formula 3 champion.
