Mattia Binotto's official departure now seems truly imminent. Several Italian media have reported that the Ferrari team boss will leave at the end of the season. On Friday, there was talk of a matter of hours before the news would be made official by Ferrari, but nothing has since been announced.

Motorsport Italy reports, however, that the rumour has not been denied by Ferrari. In Maranello, the team has decided not to comment on the reports this time. Ferrari reportedly wants to stall for time that way. The process of managing the transition is said to be more complicated than expected.

A few weeks ago, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Binotto will be replaced by Alfa Romeo team boss Fred Vasseur. Ferrari announced in a statement on social media a few hours later that there was nothing true about the rumours. Vasseur is a close acquaintance of Charles Leclerc, as the two worked together when the Monegasque was still driving for Alfa Romeo. Leclerc has reportedly not been speaking to Binotto for months after the disastrous title fight against Red Bull Racing.

No press release from Ferrari

In the afternoon on Friday, a few hours after Corriere della Sera's report, a press release was expected from Ferrari announcing Binotto's departure, according to the Italian medium, but it remained silent. There might be a few more steps to be discussed and clarified. In any case, it is starting to look more and more like Binotto is really on his way out.
