Raikkonen reckons he could have been on pole in Silverstone

Kimi Raikkonen was third fastest in qualifying yesterday. He reckons he lost time on the hot lap which ended the hopes of his first pole for over one year. The Iceman has been on strong form recently finishing second last weekend.

Raikkonen suggests he ruined his own lap late on when he locked the front wheels. He was just 0.09 seconds away from Hamilton's lap, so any mistake is likely to have cost dearly.

"On my last run in Q3, I locked the front wheels a little bit on the second last corner, and I definitely lost time there," Raikkonen said in an interview on F1i.

"So far it's been pretty ok with the car and the set-up, and things have been running smoothly. Third position is not ideal, but not too bad either."

England has faced wall to wall sunshine for over two weeks now. It's resulted in the grass at the side of the track being browner than usual, but Raikkonen isn't sure if the hot conditions will aid his Ferrar car.

"It's impossible to know if the hot conditions will help us; yesterday we did some long runs, and after that, we had a rough idea, but on Sunday it's a different story, and the conditions might be slightly different."

The 38-year-old will be the second Ferrari car on the attack going into the 1st corner. He joins Sebastian Vettel in trying to force the home favourite into a mistake. It could be the best first turn of the season so far.
