Hamilton: "One of the best laps I've been able to produce"

Lewis Hamilton labelled his pole lap yesterday as one of his best laps ever. The British driver landed his 6th pole at Silverstone, 50th for Mercedes and 76th overall after facing strong pressure from rival Sebastian Vettel.

The gap between the Silver Arrow and the red was just 0.04 seconds as they produced almost equal laps. Hamilton branded the outcome as a career highlight.

"It was so close between the Ferrari cars, and I was just praying I could do it for you guys. Without you [crowd], I wouldn't have been able to do it," said a tired 33-year-old Hamilton.

"For me, the whole-build up, the intensity, and knowing how close we all were, makes this feel like one of the best laps I have been able to produce," Hamilton said in an interview on Dailymail.

The emotion and adrenalin rush could be witnessed as soon as he got out of car 44. If he wins today's race, he will move ahead of Jim Clark and Alain Prost as the most successful driver at a British Grand Prix.

With team-mate Valtteri Bottas finishing fourth yesterday, Hamilton will be surrounded by red heading into the first corner. But in his interviews, he was so buzzing, the pole lap was the only thing on his mind.

"It was my 76th pole, but it so special and I am so happy. I didn't leave anything on the table," he added.
