Richard Verschoor got to race for his new team Van Amersfoort Racing for the first time on Wednesday. On the opening day of the two-day Formula 2 test in Abu Dhabi, he beat PREMA Racing's Frederik Vesti and Oliver Bearman.

The day was divided into two sessions, the morning session and the afternoon session. In both sessions, all 22 drivers came into action. Ten of the 22 drivers still raced in Formula 3 last season, including champion Victor Martins and vice-champion Isack Hadjar.

In the morning session, Dennis Hauger, who will drive for MP Motorsport next year, set the fastest time. As the track temperature dropped towards the evening, Verschoor managed to improve on this and claimed the fastest time, just three thousandths faster than Frederik Vesti.

In the morning, Hauger managed to keep behind Jack Doohan, Verschoor, Amaury Cordeel, F3 champion Victor Martins, Enzo Fittipaldi, Roman Stanek, Ayumu Iwasa, Vesti and Theo Pourchaire, among others. After the afternoon break, the drivers had to get back to work. Verschoor drove the fastest time in the afternoon session, keeping Vesti, Bearman, Hauger, Iwasa, Pourchaire, Kush Maini, Roman Stanek, Martins and Arthur Leclerc behind him, making up the top ten.

The drivers will also wrap up another Formula 2 test on Thursday and Friday. Besides Verschoor, Juan Manuel Correa will then also take a seat in the car for Van Amersfoort Racing.
