Grosjean will be "alright" after DRS-crash on Friday

Romain Grosjean crashed his Haas hard in FP1, which also meant that his car couldn't be fixed in time for FP2 later on the day, but the Frenchman thinks that he'll be alright on Saturday during qualifying.

When entering Abbey, Grosjean spun as he was using DRS in a place where he shouldn't have, and he flew through the gravel before cannoning into the barriers. He suffered severe damage to the front-left of the American car. Enough, at least, to keep the mechanics busy for the rest of the day.

On a positive note, Grosjean did finish in P7 in that session, which is an encouraging sign for Haas on the back of the most successful race of the team's history.

Uncharacteristically, the Frenchman did admit that he was wrong this time (it wasn't Ericsson's fault!).

“The car was fast this morning and I closed the DRS a bit too late on that lap,” he admitted to Motorsport Week.

"The aero flow didn't recover.

"And I lost the rear end, it's a shame, obviously we wanted to return to FP2.

"But I have been watching Kevin [Magnussen] quite a lot and seeing what he’s doing.

“And I think we can do better for tomorrow, but the pace was good this morning, the car felt good, so tomorrow should be alright.”

Haas will hope that the cars in front of them will struggle as much as they did in Austria. As Daniel Ricciardo, Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton all retired with mechanical issues, the two Haas cars ended in P4 and P5.
