Verstappen on crash: "Wanted to be too quick"

Max Verstappen ended his second free practice very early on Friday as the Dutchman crashed his Red Bull into the wall, and he has now admitted that he simply "wanted to be too quick" and lost control of his car.

Verstappen must've been high on confidence after his impressive win in Austria last weekend, but maybe he was a bit too confident for his own good. He lost his rear end coming out of a corner, tried to correct it but over-corrected, which led to him completely losing control of his car.

He took a trip through the gravel and ended up in the wall, first kissing it with his front wing but then smashing his rear suspension to bits, which could have big implications for tomorrow's qualifying.

Red Bull will be glad that their factory is just around the corner in case they need to print some new parts.

"I think I wanted to be too quick on the hard tyre and just lost it," Verstappen admitted to Sky Sports F1.

"Unfortunately the way you hit the wall it just rips off the right rear.

"It's not ideal to lose the second session but the feeling I had before that was actually quite good."

At least he's honest about his own mistake and not making an excuse like some other people do.
