It was talked about earlier this week: Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel would exchange helmets in honour of the German's farewell, and that promise has now been fulfilled.

Vettel agreed during the Australian Grand Prix weekend in April that he would do a helmet swap with Verstappen. It finally happened on the day of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the Aston Martin driver's last race before he retires.

Verstappen says on his social media that he has always enjoyed the battles with Vettel. Yet he also has fond memories of the four-time world champion off the track. Earlier, he shared at length about how compassionate Vettel was after the violent crash at Silverstone last year.

On track I have always enjoyed competing with Seb. But besides being a fantastic driver, I have gotten to know Seb as a very caring person and a really great guy.

Seb, you will be missed. On track, but even more for the wonderful person that you are.
