Ocon: Turn one with DRS open "not easy"

Esteban Ocon has admitted that the new DRS-zone at Silverstone, which will be the first time ever that DRS will be available in a corner, will be a tough one to deal with.

The young Frenchman has had a feel for the new DRS-zone in simulations already, and he has predicted that in this zone (from the final corner Club all the way to the third turn, Village) it will be impossible to follow another car.

“It’s not easy,” he said to RaceFans.

“We will see how it is in real [life] - I think it’s going to be a challenge in the race.

"For sure I don’t think anyone will go their DRS open and close to another car.

"I don’t think that’s going to happen, but it’s going to bring a bit of spice.”

His teammate Sergio Perez thinks that having a turn in a DRS zone will separate the cars with more and less downforce a lot, as some cars won't be able to go flat-out through those corners with DRS open.

“It will be interesting to see tomorrow because that can have an impact on some teams in qualifying that do not have the amount of downforce as other teams," the Mexican said.

"They might be having to lift and you lose DRS - it'll be interesting to see how it is on Friday."

Downforce is typically found on the cars with the better chassis, like Red Bull, who pride themselves on having the (self-proclaimed) best chassis on the grid. Whether Force India themselves can hang with the best of them remains to be seen.
