It seems the FIA wants to force Formula 2 and Formula 3 to make changes to help female drivers. The future mandatory changes should ensure that the playing field is levelled for women.

Speaking to Motorsport.comMohammed Ben Sulayem reveals that the FIA is working on boosting diversity in all categories. The W Series was set up in 2019 as a new championship for younger women, but the FIA believes things should also change in Formula 1's junior categories to promote more women in the sport.

The FIA does not plan to make any changes in the short term, but is seriously considering adjustments for the future. "we are talking with our departments when it comes to technical [aspects]. If you've got an F4 [car] it might be easy for females, but once you go to Formula 2 and F3, physically, it's harder for them. So what do we do?", the FIA president says.

Possible mandatory power steering

According to the FIA, the problem therefore lies with them. The governing body wants to give women more opportunities. Technical changes are likely to focus on making power steering mandatory.
