Haas set to hunt down Renault in constructors championship battle

Guenther Steiner says his American team are ready to hunt down Renault in the constructors' championship to battle for fourth. Haas are now into fifth place after leapfrogging both Force India and McLaren following the conclusion of the Austrian Grand Prix.

Haas outscored Renault 22-0 around Spielberg circuit closing the gap to just 13 points. Last week Renault were talking about switching their focus to 2019 if their good form continued, but now they have Haas to battle against in 2018.

Steiner, heading to Silverstone spoke to Autosport about his teams' chances in the second half of the season. He sees no reason why they should aim for fifth.

"You cannot just target fifth because we are fifth now - you need to always try to get more. Luck goes around," said Steiner.

"Renault is a strong team, they know what they are doing, and for sure they will not make it easy for us. Force India and McLaren are still very strong as well. Today we got a little bit of a leg up to come back. We will try to get fourth.

Haas faced their fair share of stick in the early part of the season. In particular when driver Romain Grosjean made a series of silly errors. But the Italian kept the strong faith as they moved forward.

"Everybody knows the potential of the car, and if you know the potential, it will come if you work hard. And it came," added Steiner.

They're now more than within touching distance of moving to the top. And if the French team have another poor weekend, who knows how the championship could look on Sunday.
