Doubts over relationship Verstappen and Perez: 'Not conducive for 2023'

There is a lot to talk about after the Brazilian Grand Prix, but the main focus seems to be on the incident between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. Timo Glock thinks the Mexican will question supporting his teammate in the future.

Verstappen owes his two world titles to his teammate, Perez said in anger after the race at Interlagos. In Abu Dhabi 2021, the Mexican 'minister of defence' managed to hold up Lewis Hamilton for laps, eventually giving Verstappen the chance to overtake the Briton. There have also been plenty of other situations where Perez played a crucial role in the title race, such as taking away the fastest race lap.

Perez revealed on Monday that everything has been discussed internally and that he can put the incident behind him. Still, Glock is not sure if the Red Bull driver will help his teammate in the future. "That is not conducive for next year. Perez will wonder if he will support Max Verstappen in the future. You have to remember what Perez did for Max last year in Abu Dhabi - and here we are talking about fourth or fifth place," he says on Sky Germany.

'Incomprehensible why Verstappen reacted the way he did'

There is much misunderstanding about Verstappen's reaction. Red Bull appeared to have discussed the situation with the Dutchman beforehand, but he was shouting over the board radio that they should not ask him again to let Perez past for sixth position. Verstappen probably wanted revenge for Monaco, as Perez reportedly admitted to his team that he had deliberately put his car into the wall in qualifying.

"It is incomprehensible why Max reacted the way he did. I would love to hear the reasons. They must be very strong if you don't change places internally. At the moment, I think Max could have solved it elegantly", the former Formula 1 driver says.
