Not Schumacher, but Magnussen leaving Haas? 'Everything is possible'

Ralf Schumacher is adamant that nephew Mick Schumacher will not lose his seat at Haas. The German even goes so far as to say that not Schumacher, but Kevin Magnussen might be replaced by Nico Hulkenberg.

With the announcement of Stoffel Vandoorne as Aston Martin's new reserve driver for 2023, it is starting to look more and more like Hulkenberg has found a place with another team. It has been known for a while that Haas is in talks with the German about the second seat.

Still, Schumacher should not be ruled out too soon, says uncle Ralf Schumacher. "Everything is of course possible, especially looking at the last few races", the 47-year-old tells Sky Germany. "Who knows, Magnussen may not be so firmly in the seat anymore?"

"If we look at the races since Silverstone, we have to conclude that Mick is the more stable and better of the two drivers. He has also had some bad luck with wrong strategies. In the last race [Mexico], Mick was sometimes as much as six tenths faster than Magnussen, so let's wait and see the upcoming races. I hope Haas makes a decision soon", the former Formula One driver continues.

Magnussen isn't going anywhere

At the start of the season, it was soon clear that Magnussen was the better driver, but since the Austrian Grand Prix, the Dane, like Schumacher, has struggled to collect points. Only in America did Magnussen score points again with a ninth place finish. In any case, it does not look like Haas will replace Magnussen, as the 30-year-old driver has signed a multi-year contract.
