Perez blames poor pit stop: 'I'm disappointed'

Sergio Perez is somewhat disappointed after the Mexican Grand Prix after all. The Red Bull driver would have liked to have won in front of his own crowd, but did not see that happen partly due to a failed pit stop.

Prior to the Mexican GP, there was much talk about a possible win for Perez in Mexico and the possible role Max Verstappen could play in it. In the end, it was Verstappen who managed to win for the fourth time in Mexico, while his teammate was stuck on P3 behind Lewis Hamilton.

Perez not satisfied with podium

''It feels good to be on the podium but I wanted more today, I am a little bit disappointed. We could have finished second definitely but we had a poor pitstop, which really prevented us doing the undercut and being closer to Lewis. The hard tyre didn’t work for him initially but once he got them going it just didn’t work for me,'' Perez said in Red Bull Racing's press release.

The Mexican thus points to his team's five-second pit stop as the main cause, but the home hero had already reduced his chances himself on Saturday by qualifying only fourth. This only made his task on Sunday more difficult. Still, Perez did enjoy racing in front of his own fans.

''This place in unbelievable, it is an amazing crowd here and I will never forget these moments because of the people. It is certainly, if not the best, one of the best crowds in Formula One - I am very privileged to have this support,'' the 32-year-old driver concluded. With two races to go, Perez hopes to add one more victory to his tally this season.
