Sebastian Vettel has apologised directly to Valtteri Bottas after yesterday’s first corner incident. The Ferrari driver has now lost the championship lead after Hamilton raced away to win the Grand Prix.

Vettel tapped Bottas which caused him to spin. This resulted in the German having a broken front wing and a five-second penalty. He finished in 5th, whilst team-mate Kimi Raikkonen finished 3rd proving Ferrari had pace.

"In the end, there wasn't that much that I could have done different," Vettel told Sky Sports.

"Just a bit the wrong place [at the wrong time]. For Valtteri it was very bad because it affected his race and he had nothing to do with it, so I went to him after the race.”

Bottas didn’t recover as well as Vettel. The Finn came home in 7th being beaten and held back by the Haas of Kevin Magnussen.

Toto Wolff wasn’t too disgusted with Sebastian Vettel after the race.

"To be honest, with Sebastian, Sebastian misjudged the situation and took himself out of the race and lost valuable points. It bites them both,” Toto also told Sky Sports.
