Liberty Media is hopeful of reaching an agreement with Silverstone that would keep the British Grand Prix at the venue past 2018. The circuit owners exercised a break clause in their contract citing unsustainable hosting fees.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, F1 commercial managing director Sean Bratches said that he hoped a deal would be reached soon to keep the British Grand Prix on the calendar.

“Silverstone is part of the foundation of this sport.

“We are a commercial business and we are going to do a deal that makes sense for us and hopefully there’s an opportunity there.

“We just renewed Spa on terms that work for both parties, and my suspicion is that we can do the same for Silverstone. That’s our intent, anyway.”

Silverstone has hosted the British Grand Prix dating back to the 1950s and is regarded as the home of British motorsport.
