Mercedes planned to race with the new upgrade in Montreal two weeks ago, but this was plan was cancelled. It was expected the delay would last up until the French Grand Prix this weekend, but new doubt has been cast over the new engine.

Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were not sure if they would have the upgrade or not even just yesterday.

“Let’s wait and see what the team will decide tomorrow,” said Hamilton. “I trust their judgment.

"It wouldn’t be so bad if we have to take the spec 1 again. It would be fresh and have more power. Engine performance has never been a problem for us.”

Bottas went on to add how he’s not too sure if he will race with the engine. But the Finn didn’t deny he was desperate for the upgrade. Mercedes seemingly struggled with the old engine in Montreal.

“We really want to put the new one in, but we’re waiting to see if we can do it until tomorrow,” said Bottas.

“Every race weekend, the three strongest teams are fighting hard, and any increase in speed we can get is important. We really hope to get that new engine.”
