Red Bull and Renault are officially getting divorced after a twelve-year marriage, and the drivers at Renault think that they'll be better off without having the Bulls as a customer in the future.

As he's still under contract at Red Bull, Carlos Sainz Jr somewhat dodged the question about whether Red Bull is better off with Honda as engine partners.

"They know where they stand," Sainz told Motorsport.

"Their results in the past years gives us [Renault] the opportunity to see where we come short compared to the top teams.

"That information is no longer needed."

His teammate Nico Hulkenberg chimed in to confirm that Renault no longer needs Red Bull.

"We don't need another car anymore as a benchmark," the German said.

"Your lap times say enough and the cars at the front are always the benchmark.

"Red Bull Racing won't make a difference in that, because we know what we have to improve on."

Saltyness or genuine belief that they're fine on their own?
