Romain Grosjean’s engine that ended his qualifying in Canada has been cleared to use again, and the Frenchman will use it is practice for his home Grand Prix this weekend.

It had been feared that the Haas driver’s Ferrari engine had suffered significant damage in the incident, but fortunately for Grosjean, the V6, MGU-H and turbo are still useable in Paul Ricard.

It turns out that an oil leak led to the smoke cloud, a relief for Haas who could have been facing grid penalties earlier than they would have liked this season.

Team boss Gunther Steiner welcomed the news, saying: "It went back to Ferrari and they inspected it, they said there was no internal damage.

"We had to bring a new engine into the pool [in Canada, but] at the moment we don't foresee a grid penalty for the engine or one of the components."

Grosjean is still searching for his first points of the season, having suffered his worst start to an F1 season in his career.

The Frenchman recorded his best finish of the season last time out with 12th in Montreal and will be desperate to open his account for this year in the South of France.
