Frenchmen in France: What can the home drivers expect from Paul Ricard?

We currently have three drivers from France in Formula One, and for each of them, this will be their first home race. So we look at what would be considered a successful race for Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon and Romain Grosjean.

Pierre Gasly – One of his ‘good’ weekends

This season, Gasly has been inconsistent in the Toro Rosso, scoring good points twice with fourth and seventh in Bahrain and Monaco respectively. However, in the other five races he has been out of the points, suffering two retirements in the process. Gasly will be looking for a solid performance and maybe capitalising on misfortune for others to score some points.

Esteban Ocon – A continuation of his form

Ocon has placed in the top ten only three times this season in seven races compared to six out of seven last season. On the bright side, two of those points finishes have come in the last two races, coupled with a return to form in qualifying. Ocon will be looking for a solid qualifying and will hope to be the best of the rest behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull.

Romain Grosjean – An end to his barren run

Contrary to what he has shown this season, Grosjean is a very fast driver, and he has a good car, so why has he not scored points? He has had a mix of unreliability and bad luck, but in reality, he just hasn’t been on it so far. However, he did return his best finish last time out in Canada with P12, so could the former Lotus driver break his duck and score points at the eighth attempt?
