Jenson Button has revealed how he is loving life since quitting Formula 1 at the end of the 2016 season. He has recently announced his engagement to Brittany Ward.

The former McLaren driver featured in the 24 hours Le Mans at the weekend and will be racing against Guy Martin in the build-up to the British Grand Prix.

But commenting on his life after F1 he says: “I’ve definitely done my years in F1, and stepping away was great, it was a good time for me to do it,” he said in an interview with ESPN.

“Realistically if I had the choice, I would have left half-way through [2016],” he admitted after experiencing tricky times with a troubling McLaren.

He went on to confirm Le Mans was something that he always wanted to be apart of and goes on to say how much he enjoyed the event.

“It’s not comparable to anything I’ve really done before because some areas of the track are so dark,” he added.

“Here it’s more mental than physical, I think that’s the bigger issue I’m not used to, reacting to things for that period of time.”

Button retired from the race an hour early after the car suffered an engine issue.
