Colton Herta's future for now lies in America. Yet he remains open to Formula 1, assuming another opportunity will come his way.

The 22-year-old American still has plenty of time to pursue a championship in IndyCar with Andretti Autosport before another opportunity to make a move to Formula 1 may arise. If it were to happen, representing Andretti's team would be at the top of Herta's list, but a lot has to happen for all involved to open the door to F1.

For now, Herta's focus is back in America where he may test with the BMW IMSA GTP team ahead of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in January. "It seems like the F1 thing has run its course, and seems as if there won’t be an opportunity, which I’m fine with", he told RACER. "It was something that I was honestly looking forward to trying, and I still might be able to try in the future." Herta added that IndyCar was never a contingency plan and he is still very happy to drive in IndyCar.

Attention

Herta's name was mentioned in connection with a test at McLaren Racing in recent months, as well as with Andretti to become the 11th team on the grid. In addition, there were also many efforts from Red Bull Racing to secure a super licence to place him with the AlphaTauri team to replace Pierre Gasly, who in turn is reportedly switching to Alpine.

The Californian did not hate the attention, but he is looking forward to a return to fewer questions about F1. "It does get a little bit repetitive after a while but having your name in the media kind of propels things a little bit; sometimes for good, sometimes for worse", Herta said. Finally, the young American also indicated that even though the opportunity did not materialise, it left him with a good feeling that there were interested parties.
