Former Red Bull talent takes over spot from Robin Frijns at Envision

Sebastien Buemi will take over Robin Frijns' place at Envision Racing's Formula E team. In the 2022-2023 season, the Swiss driver will compete alongside Nick Cassidy.

Buemi successful in Formula E

Buemi will make a switch within Formula E next season, with the former Toro Rosso Formula 1 driver joining the Envision Racing team in the 2022-2023 season. Buemi has been active in the electric class since the 2014-2015 season, driving only for the Renault/Nissan e.dams team.

Buemi was extremely successful in the FE in his first seasons. In the first four years, he finished second in the championship three times and even took the title in the 2015-2016 season. In the last two years, things slowed down. Last season, Buemi finished fifteenth in the standings and did not stand on the podium a single time. The year before was even less with a 21st place in the standings. The last victory dates back to the 2018-2019 season.

Switch to Envision

In 2022-2023, the 33-year-old driver hopes to revive his FE career with Envision. There, he will take over the vacant seat from Robin Frijns, who in turn left for Team Abt. Envision will drive Jaguar in 2022-2023 and with the new Gen3 cars, it will be interesting to see which team comes out on top.

amount of respect for the team, and I believe they’ve done a great job in maximising results over the years,'' Buemi revealed in the press release.

''The new Gen3 era is hugely important for the sport and presents a new challenge, with a faster, lighter and more powerful car. My objective is to fight at the front, so I’m looking forward to start testing and preparing myself ahead of the first race in Mexico City.''

The Formula E season begins with a test in Valencia from 13 to 16 December. After that, the teams have to get ready with their new cars for the first race of the season in Mexico City. The first ePrix will be completed there on 14 January. The Formula E calendar has 18 races.
