Max Verstappen is not dealing with the allegations about a possible violation of the updated financial regulations Friday it was revealed that possibly Red Bull Racing, among others, may have gone over the budget cap in the 2021 Formula 1 season.

On Friday morning, both Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport and Germany's Auto, Motor und Sport came out with the rumour that at least two teams have exceeded the budget cap last year. In Red Bull's case, according to these media, it would be a bigger breach, although it is important to note that there are no official details of the figures yet. On Friday evening, for instance, the FIA let it be known that this is 'unsubstantiated speculation' and that it will only send ratings to the 10 teams next week, possibly on Wednesday.

'Public secret'

Ferrari and Toto Wolff have already called on the FIA to punish severely if it does turn out to be an actual violation. The Mercedes team boss indicated that the FIA investigation would be a "public secret" in the paddock. Christian Horner and Helmut Marko reacted vehemently to the Mercedes team boss on Saturday, wondering aloud how Wolff could actually get information about the Red Bull accounts.

When asked by Motorsport.com how Verstappen is following this whole saga, the Limburger let it be known that he knows where it is coming from, referring to Mercedes. As such, the reigning world champion is not worried about the possible outcome. He is getting information from the team and they are confident. Verstappen continued: "Of course, then other teams start to talk about it while they have no information and I find that a bit silly. Just keep your mouth shut."
