The Singapore Grand Prix will be held again for the first time since 2019. Teams and drivers are getting ready for a tough and possibly wet race on the Marina Bay street circuit. It is the first weekend where Max Verstappen could go on to clinch his second Formula 1 World championship.

The 2022 Singapore Grand Prix

During qualifying on Saturday, it was Verstappen who seemed to be heading for pole position. Until he was asked to come back into the pits, forcing him to abort his fast lap. A judgement error by Red Bull meant he would not have enough fuel in his tank to complete the lap. Red Bull's blunder allowed Charles Leclerc to start from first place, who thus has the best papers in hand to take the win.

Mercedes in good form

Sergio Pérez starts from second place and is of course only too happy to fight the Monegasque. Behind the Mexican is Lewis Hamilton, who is still aiming for a win this year and with Mercedes appearing to be in good form this weekend, that could be possible. Verstappen, who starts from eighth, will mainly be looking to gain a lot of positions and in the streets of Singapore that will be quite a challenge.

World champion scenario feasible?

61 laps will be completed in extremely hot temperatures. On paper, Verstappen could become world champion in Singapore, but starting from eighth place and counting Leclerc's starting position, this scenario does not really seem feasible. The chance of a safety car is very high. Either way, we can get ready for an exciting race at Marina Bay and via our liveblog you won't have to miss a thing!
