George Russell was fighting at the top of the timing charts today in FP1 and FP2, as he finished fifth and third after the first day of racing in Singapore. However, the Brit is still wary of the work needed to be done in order to bridge the gap to the front runners but still remains optimistic that a result can be gained.

"We were okay, but there is still a lot of work to do," the Brit told Motorsport Magazin, before adding that "it was so bumpy! We already knew our car was going to have problems with that."

Russell, however, was struggling more so with the heat, as highs of 32 degrees hit the circuit, leaving drivers, mechanics and everyone involved covered in sweat: "I almost felt a bit dazed when I got out of the car."

Chance at success in qualifying

The Mercedes driver still believes that a result can be gained in qualifying tomorrow, which would lead to a better chance in the race, but admits that "everything has to go perfectly there. We remain optimistic."
