Daniel Ricciardo still hopes that he will remain a regular part of Formula 1 next season, he reveals to Formula1.com. Should he not succeed, he aspires to a season as a reserve driver for a team in the motorsport class.

McLaren will say goodbye to Ricciardo at the end of the racing year and will continue with Oscar Piastri in 2023. It means Ricciardo will soon have to start looking for a new challenge. Although his management is in talks with several people, Ricciardo still does not know where he stands.

"Of course, Plan A would be to be on the grid, but nothing's changed," Ricciardo told Medium. "Let's say I don't want to just jump at the first seat available. I know the landscape probably changes as well end of next year with contracts and whatever so I'm just… I don't want to say remaining patient, but just remaining open."

Ricciardo wants to stay connected to F1

Outside Formula 1, there is reportedly some interest in Ricciardo's services, but the Australian does not consider himself ready for such a move yet. The driver, therefore, prefers to stay connected to Formula 1, although it remains to be seen whether this will work out.

Ricciardo is therefore also considering taking on the role of reserve driver. "That's the two, I would say, realistic options," the driver concludes. "I love other disciplines of motorsport but I don't see myself there."
