Vettel gives F1 homework: 'Otherwise not particularly credible'

Formula 1 plans to be completely climate-neutral by 2030. Although Sebastian Vettel is happy that the motorsport class is working on it to take steps towards sustainability, the German opposite Auto, Motor und Sport assessed what the result will be.

The driver, who will retire from Formula 1 at the end of the season, does not yet find the current situation credible. According to Vettel, it is important to set targets as an organisation, but there must also be pressure to actually achieve results.

"The question is what happens if you don't achieve the targets," Vettel warned. "Who is the controller? If Formula 1 controls itself, that's a nice slogan, but not particularly credible. Ultimately, it is important that you are also willing to take a cut of your own profits to make credible strides."

Among other things, Vettel points to the calendar for next season. This year, teams still face 22 races, but this number rises to 24 in the new racing year. Moreover, the distances between the different race weekends would be increased.
