Jack Doohan has recently been seriously linked with a move to Formula 1. The Alpine junior could potentially count as Fernando Alonso's replacement at the team for 2023. The Australian feels flattered, but argues that he is mostly concerned with what he can influence.

Alpine is said to be considering Doohan as a serious option. The 19-year-old driver may not be the French formation's first, second or third choice. After all, those were Alonso himself, Oscar Piastri and Pierre Gasly. Then we also have Nyck de Vries who is higher on the wish list according to the rumour circuit, but that should not spoil the fun for Doohan.

Doohan and Formula 1

The current Formula 2 championship number four is on form. In Belgium, he won the main race and at Monza, he grabbed pole position but crashed out unhappily. Doohan acknowledges that his good results in recent weeks are very tasty in terms of timing, now that he is linked to Formula 1.

"There's obviously a lot going on and I'm trying not to get too involved to be honest, I'm trying to stay focused on what I can control and that's my car, my team and outside of that is to be honest not a worry at the moment. I'm just going to try and put in good results, good performances and show what we can do," Doohan is quoted by Motorsport.com.

Doohan says time will tell what will happen. He says he is fine in Formula 2 and is looking to make a good showing at the final weekend of the step-up (and only) class in Abu Dhabi. This week he will be in action during a test with a 2021 Alpine car. There, he will want to convince the management of his qualities. De Vries and Antonio Giovinazzi are also taking part.
