Mattia Binotto is under pressure at Ferrari. The Italian was given time to mould the team to his liking, but in 2022 Ferrari disappointed. The question now is whether the team boss will be allowed to keep his spot?

In 2019, Binotto was put forward as Maurizio Arrivabene's replacement. The team's former technical manager was now to lead the formation. He opted for a new structure with responsibilities spread over more people. Binotto was already widely criticised for this in 2020, when the team fell back to sixth place among constructors. However, he continuously pointed to the new rules.

Pressure on Binotto

The rules came in 2022 and Ferrari indeed appeared to have built a good car. During the season, however, things went wrong. Tactical blunders were made at the pit wall and the F1-75 lost ground on the Red Bull car. While the Austrian team manages to develop the car well, Ferrari starts to feel the breath of Mercedes.

Not surprisingly, its leader is under pressure. However, Luca di Montezemolo, former top Ferrari executive, thinks decisions should not be taken too hastily. After all, according to the man who was at the helm of Ferrari's golden years with Michael Schumacher, they too made mistakes back then.

Attention Ferrari

''Ferrari is simply the team that gets the most media attention. Ferrari is not forgiven anything because it is Ferrari. We now just need to understand why some mistakes were made,'' Di Montezemolo said at the French L'Equipe.

The former top Ferrari executive does not believe that one man can win the world championship and he therefore doubts that a Binotto resignation will help. However, the Italian does believe that a new dynamic is needed within the team to ensure a change.
