Nyck de Vries was a guest on the RTL 4 talk show Humberto on Saturday night via video link. In it, presenter Humberto Tan asked, among other things, how the 27-year-old de Vries is doing physically. The Dutchman dropped in at Williams last weekend and scored points on his debut, he therefore had a hectic week after the Italian Grand Prix. His future is also discussed.

Footage of De Vries struggling to get out of his Williams and mechanics having to lift him out was widely shared after the race weekend in Monza. De Vries responded that it was embarrassing. "Actually Monza is supposed to be one of the lightest circuits on the calendar, I wasn't used to it, it's a long race and the position in the car is just a bit different so you hit other points and muscles. I felt it quite a bit."

Hectic week

Asked about how the week went after his stint at Williams, the 27-year-old driver says: "Very hectic, in all honesty I was just in bed to sleep a bit because can use a bit of sleep well. The weekend itself was fantastic and has gone by in a flash, kind of a dream come true anyway and then also being able to finish successfully that weekend." He also could not have imagined everything that happened after and therefore quickly went back to reality. "On Monday I came back to reality, also because I am now very busy with the future." De Vries experienced all the support and messages and congratulations as special and beautiful. He could also count on praise from colleagues Verstappen and Hamilton.

Logical step

De Vries has no manager or fiduciary and does most of his business himself. The FE champion seems in demand and is even rumoured to be in a position to choose. To that, he says:"I don't quite know if I'm in such a luxury situation where I can literally choose. I think that's largely out of my control." There are, however, talks with teams, including Williams. "I've been in talks with that for a long time. That is also where I was allowed and able to make my debut so would be a logical step."

Alpine and De Vries have been in contact since July this year. "And I will test for that in Budapest next week. I will fly there on Monday." De Vries also points to rumours of a deal with AlphaTauri. "And as the media had noticed earlier, I was in Austria last week to meet Helmut Marko and talk about the future. Those are the facts. "

Beyond his control

De Vries says it doesn't matter much to him which team he will drive for in 2023. "Wherever I could secure a permanent seat, I would be very content and happy with that. We have to see how it will develop in the coming days and weeks. As I said, it's not entirely in my power." Presenter Tan then finally cited his good performance: "In this world not everything is about performance, but fortunately there is a bit of momentum now and there is also room on the grid. That's nice, but it doesn't guarantee a seat. We are not there yet."
