Mattia Binotto is in a difficult position at Ferrari this season. Whereas the Italian team built a car that can compete for victories, it is failing in many other areas this calendar year. Gary Anderson thinks that part of the solution lies with the team boss.

With Ferrari last winning the title in 2007 with Kimi Raikkonen, the pressure is now on for the team. During the current season, the team hoped to fight for the world title with Max Verstappen, but that seems to have failed this year due to the Dutchman's large lead.

Tough challenge for Binotto raises questions

Ferrari therefore needs to sort out where the problems are within the team next winter so that it can possibly move forward in the fight for the world title in 2023. The former technical director of Jordan F1 writes on The Race that Binotto must also ask questions of himself.

"I don’t feel that Ferrari is being honest with itself because, on too many occasions, I hear what I would call fairly lame excuses," Anderson said. "I’m not after Mattia Binotto’s job or calling for his scalp, but ever since he took over as team principal – having previously been technical director – I’ve said the job is too big for one person."
