Four female drivers will get the chance to test in Formula 3 during the weekend of 16 September. They are Abbi Pulling, Chloe Chambers and Tereza Babickova from the W Series. Formula 4 driver Hamda Al Qubaisi will also get this coveted opportunity. The aim is to generate more diversity in the sport.

"Diversity is one of our key discussions regarding the future of motorsport," says Bruno Michel, CEO of Formula 3. Last year, Formula 3 also gave female drivers a chance, and they were all very enthusiastic. "All said how beneficial this one-day test had been to their understanding of the demands of our championship," said the Frenchman.

Getting expectations right

Four new drivers have been selected again this year. "We selected four new drivers for this year, as we follow closely not only the W Series, but also female drivers in other categories," Michel explains. According to the CEO, the aim is not to compare performances. It also gives the drivers a chance to understand from every aspect what is expected of a driver in Formula 3."So that they can prepare for the challenges when they progress to our championship, hopefully in the near future.”

Priority

F1 director Stefano Domenicali welcomes the opportunities for the ladies at the Magny Cours circuit."Providing more opportunities for women drivers across single seater racing is a key priority for all of us at Formula 1 and across the whole sport," the Italian said. Domenicali added that the test is a real opportunity to show the teams what they have to offer and make a case for a seat in the competition in the coming years.
