Head of aerodynamics at Williams throws in the towel

Dirk de Beer has left his role at Williams F1. He was the head of aerodynamics and has seemingly taken the slack for the teams’ poor start to the 2018 season.

De Beer has been at Williams for just over a year having made the move from Ferrari in early 2017. 

It’s the second major departure to take place at Williams in 2018. In May, chief designer Ed Wood left the British team.

“Williams can confirm that Dirk de Beer has stepped down from his role as head of aerodynamics, effective immediately,” said a spokesperson from Williams. 

“The team would like to thank Dirk for his work over the past year and wish him the best for the future.

“Chief engineer, Dough McKiernan - will now assume full responsibility over the aerodynamic and design direction of the car, with Dave Wheater stepping up to take on the role as head of aerodynamics.” 

Williams have scored just four points so far this season with debutant Sergey Sirotkin remaining pointless after 6 Grands Prix.
