Hamilton admits he "was cruising from lap 6"

Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he wasn't focussing on racing much in Monaco, but more on the degradation of his tyres, saying that he was "cruising" for most of the race in the Principality.

Hamilton came home in third place, eventually putting on some pressure on Sebastian Vettel but mostly just taking it easy.

"We were probably just cruising around from lap six, maybe," Hamilton admitted.

"Literally cruising.

"So it wasn't really racing.

"To make the tyres go long, it was thought they wouldn't go as long as they did, but they did - they obviously kept going but the grip was really poor."

Hamilton finished in the points for 31st consecutive time in Monaco. His clinical consistency is probably what separates him from most other drivers, as he might not always win, but he's never far off.

Hamilton, Vettel and Ricciardo have all won two races now, but it's Hamilton who's comfortably in first place in the title race for exactly that reason. Ricciardo always has problems with his Red Bull, which is why he might be in third place in the standings, but he's still 40 points off the top.
