McLaren have finally been able to confirm Oscar Piastri as their driver for the 2023 Formula 1 season. McLaren CEO Zak Brown is delighted to get the deal over the line after Alpine previously announced Piastri was their driver for next season.

Piastri alongside McLaren

With Daniel Ricciardo departing, McLaren will replace him with another Australian. The younger Piastri will drive alongside Lando Norris at the papaya orange team. This supplies McLaren with two younger drivers as they look to build themselves back to the top of the grid in Formula 1. Brown acknowledges this point in the press release.

“Oscar is one of the up-and-coming talents coming through the feeder series into F1 and we are delighted to see him join the team for 2023. Winning both F3 and F2 in successive rookie seasons is a real achievement and testament to his talent in single-seater racing. In Lando and Oscar we have a young, exciting F1 line-up with a huge amount of potential, standing us in good stead to achieve our future ambitions. Oscar is an exciting addition to the McLaren family, and we look forward to seeing him grow with our F1 team," Brown said.

Alpine have yet to announce who their second driver will be alongside Esteban Ocon. However, for the time being, the two teams are locked in a duel on the track. The two are fighting over fourth in the World Championship.
