Steiner warns Liberty Media that too many races will kill F1

Guenther Steiner has sent out warning signals to Liberty Media after speculation of adding yet another race to the calendar. By the time we get to Abu Dhabi, 2018 will equal the record for the longest F1 season after 21 races.

A Grand Prix being added in Miami has been a talking point for well over a fortnight now, and just recently the possibility of adding one in Berlin. Steiner believes it is getting harder for fans and teams to deal with.

“I don’t know exactly what Liberty is doing. I think there is maybe one Grand Prix not happening next year, and then we are back to 21,” said the Haas boss.

“I think 22 would still be possible, but it’s getting difficult. We will find out this year when we have a triple header how difficult this is.

“We will struggle and maybe find that there is a saturation point for the public. We need to be careful.”

The tripleheader begins with the French Grand Prix on the 24th June and ends two weeks later in Silverstone. The Austrian Grand Prix is sandwiched between the two. It sounds like an exciting prospect, but is it a step too far?
