At the age of 41, Fernando Alonso is still a valued driver in the Formula 1 world. Next year he will make the switch to Aston Martin. The Spaniard hopes that the collaboration will go well.

After the Hungarian Grand Prix, Alonso made the surprising announcement that he will leave Alpine after 2022 for the Aston Martin team, where the Spaniard will replace Sebastian Vettel. Many fans and experts, but also Alpine itself, were surprised by Alonso's choice.

"The contract for two more years with another team [Aston Martin] is innovative. I hope it works out well", Alonso, who immediately went on holiday after the race in Hungary, is quoted by Marca. Currently, Aston Martin is racing at the back of the grid, but Lawrence Stroll's team has ambitions to fight for the title in the coming years.

Alonso: 'No normal conversations between drivers'

At the age of 39, Alonso decided to return to F1. The Spaniard can laugh at the jokes about his age. His own team does not dare to call him old. "They don't dare. They think about it, but nobody says anything." The Alpine driver also tells more about relationships between Formula One drivers. "We don't have the friendship we see in other sports, like cycling and MotoGP. In F1, there is a lot of distance between all the drivers. There is a lot of secrecy and ego. There are no normal conversations or scenarios for bullying, like calling me an old man to my face."
