RESULTS: Spain post-race test day one

Red Bull's Max Verstappen topped the timesheets on day one of the post-Spanish Grand Prix test. The Dutchman set a 1:17.528 to finish ahead of Carlos Sainz in the Renault and Sebastian Vettel in third.

The gap at the top was close, just 0.034s was the gap between first and second, although fuel loads and setups remain unknown, it was a positive day for Renault.

Race winner Lewis Hamilton finished just sixth in the order with a 1:18.543, a time that was over two seconds down on his pole position time, however the Silver Arrows man did log the most laps, 151 his final total. Mercedes also tested an innovative rain light system. The lights on the rear wing supports on the back of the car lined with LED lights.

Elsewhere, Antonio Giovinazzi pulled double duty, driving the Sauber in the morning session and switching to the Ferrari in the afternoon. Oliver Rowland and Sean Galael were at the wheel for Williams and Toro Rosso respectively, Williams will be pleased to not finish bottom of the pile, a marked change from their race weekend form.

McLaren and Force India finished towards the bottom of the times however both teams were testing for Pirelli and running 2019 specification tyres. McLaren junior drivers Lando Norris and Oliver Turvey sharing driving duties in the papaya orange car and Force India ran Mercedes junior driver George Russell and Nicholas Latifi.
